Considering the events of 1 Kings 17 and 18, why is the flight of Elijah so surprising? Why is it not? Also read James 5:17.

What did Elijah pray for in the wilderness? 1 Kings 19:4

Ever felt like Elijah? Reflect on Elijah’s life in the wilderness up to this point. Given the way God had led him up till then, do you expect his attitude to be different? List the reasons why, or why not.

How did God answer Elijah’s prayer? Consider 1 Kings 19:5-8, and also 2 Kings 2.     

What does God’s response to Elijah’s prayer reveal about God and His character?            

Elijah’s flight and his prayer in the wilderness were telling of his personal needs. Does God adequately meet these needs? Give reasons for your response.

What can we learn from Elijah’s experience about prayer, and the importance of trust in God in hard times?

When God found Elijah cowering in a cave of unbelief in the wilderness, He asked him, What are you doing here, Elijah? Where does God find you today? List some practical things you can do to strengthen your trust in God. What are some Bible promises you can cling to through the hard times?
